Lam 3:17-23 And thou hast removed my soul far off from peace: I forgat prosperity. 18 And I said, My strength and my hope is perished from the Lord: 19 Remembering mine affliction and my misery, the wormwood and the gall. 20 My soul hath them still in remembrance, and is humbled in me. 21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
22 It is of the Lord’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.

There is much that can trouble a person today, it is a different world than most of us grew up in and often one can find themselves overwhelmed. Troubles seem to be on every side today, the crime and violence, the economy, health issues and so on. Yet we find in the Bible the key to overcoming all that troubles us today. Did you know that verse 21 in our reading today is the only place in the Bible the world “Recall” is found? The prophet Jeremiah, the weeping prophet, is troubled here as he is living through and pronouncing the judgment of God on a sin laden nation. There is much that troubled Jeremiah. But then the prophet would stop and recall the faithfulness of God, the mercy and grace of God, the goodness of His God. When Jeremiah would do this, when Jeremiah would recall, it would give him hope and peace in a troubled world, in troubled times. It does us good today to stop and recall just as Jeremiah did, it give us peace and hope today to recall.
