This verse is from the parable of the sower and the seed and we find that the seed falling on good ground does spring up and yield fruit. Any tree that is alive will yield fruit, some not as much as others depending upon how the tree is maintained. We have fruit trees on our church property and even though they have not been trimmed for years they still bear fruit, not as good as could be, but they still bear fruit. Spiritually speaking any tree that is alive will bear fruit. In the verse we find different degrees of fruit bearing, some thirty, some sixty, and some one hundred. What makes the difference here? Does the Lord take more care of one tree than another, does He love one more than another, does He have preference? The answer is no, in the spiritual application the tree makes the difference. Some more yielded to the Master will bear more fruit than others. As Christians we have within by the power of the Holy Spirit of God the ability to bear fruit for our Lord, but how much of self will we give over to Him? This determines the amount of fruit we will bear. If we have within, again by the power of the Holy Spirit, the ability to yield one hundred percent to our Lord, might it be that God will require that one hundred? I believe He will and does. Think of what we will give back to Him at that judgment seat of rewards in heaven. Will it be thirty, sixty, or one hundred?
