December 25th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyLuke 2:1-7 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed. 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Beth-lehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. 6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
What a blessed day this is, Christmas Day! I know that some who ready this are waking up alone this morning and I want you to know that I am praying for those that I know who are alone. My wife and I were blessed with our first child in 1983 and beginning with Christmas that year we have always had our children in the house on Christmas morning. This marks the first year we wake up without them in our home. Our daughter is married to a Christian man, they have a beautiful son and they are not here this morning, our son has his own place and he is not here this morning, it is different for us this year. But I was thinking as I was praying this morning, that we have not been left alone, and even when death separates us from loved ones, we are not left alone, we woke up, I woke up with Jesus today. Isn’t it a blessing to know that even as things change in this world, that Jesus never changes, that none need wake up alone on Christmas Day. Merry Christmas to all who are alone today, but not really alone at all.
