November 29th, 2012 by Pastor Solley2 Chron 7:19-22 But if ye turn away, and forsake my statutes and my commandments, which I have set before you, and shall go and serve other gods, and worship them; 20 Then will I pluck them up by the roots out of my land which I have given them; and this house, which I have sanctified for my name, will I cast out of my sight, and will make it to be a proverb and a byword among all nations. 21 And this house, which is high, shall be an astonishment to every one that passeth by it; so that he shall say, Why hath the LORD done thus unto this land, and unto this house? 22 And it shall be answered, Because they forsook the LORD God of their fathers, which brought them forth out of the land of Egypt, and laid hold on other gods, and worshipped them, and served them: therefore hath he brought all this evil upon them.
God promised to hear the prayers of His people, promised to send revival to the land in answer to prayer. (2 Chron 7:17) But with the promise there was also a warning as we see in our reading today. If God’s people would turn away from Him, turn away from His Word, there would be judgment upon the land. This is what we see in our nation today, the people of God have turned away from the Word of God. The proof of that is seen in the lives of professing Christians. Look at what is accepted into the homes of the redeemed today, into the lives of the redeemed today. Look at what is missing from the lives of God’s people today. There is a lack of holiness, a lack of commitment, a lack of love, a lack of obedience and we could go on and on. God’s people have fallen in love with the world and neglected the house of God, neglected prayer and ignored His Word. We can point a finger at the leaders of our nation but are they really at fault or is it the people of God? This is what I find to be true today, that Christians who complain the most about our government and leaders also pray the least for them. If we want to see revival we as Christians need to practice 2 Chron 7:17 and heed the warning that we are given in the later verses of the chapter.
