September 4th, 2012 by Pastor Solley3 John 1:1-4 THE elder unto the wellbeloved Gaius, whom I love in the truth. 2 Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. 3 For I rejoiced greatly, when the brethren came and testified of the truth that is in thee, even as thou walkest in the truth. 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children walk in truth.
What was it that brought the beloved Apostle joy? Was John near the end of his life on this earth and service for the Lord Jesus Christ thinking on all that he had accomplished as an apostle? Was he thinking of the Word of God that the Spirit of God used him to pen? Was he thinking of the different churches he helped to start? Was he thinking of those he had touched and healed? What was it that brought John joy near the end of life? John was filled with joy when he looked at others who were walking in the truth of the Word of God. John had experienced those who confessed Jesus and then turned and walked away. (Read John 6) John had experienced those who confessed Christ and were filled with pride and lifted themselves up. John had experienced those who confessed Christ and then followed after false doctrine. John had experienced all that we see today and those things sickened John I am sure just as they sicken the believer in Christ today. The Word of God needs to be our standard, our measuring rod of truth. Not the writings of men today or of the past, the Word of God. When we follow after the truth of the Word of God that brings joy to the heart of God and to others as well who are walking in truth. John had no greater joy than to see others walking in truth.
