August 20th, 2012 by Pastor Solley1 Cor 10:12-14 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall. 13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it. 14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.
We live in the strongest nation in the world but also in a nation about to fall. Those who think America cannot fall are in for an awakening I fear and in many ways our strengths have become our weakness. Verse 12 above could be speaking of the United States and making that application verse 13 tells us that our nation is going through what others who have fallen as well. That being said we should be able to look back in time and see what plagued other nations and learn from them. Consider verse 14 this morning. Israel fell because of idolatry, because they turned their back on the Lord and went after idols. We live in a nation today full of idols. TV stars, sports stars, rock, start, country stars, the TV itself, money, fame, on and on we could go, we live in a nation full of idols. How else could you explain paying someone to play a sport over 100 million dollars and then people buying a shirt with that persons name on the back and paying 50 dollars or more for that. People live and die with their sports team and idol. The TV is the first thing that is turned on in the morning and then many if not most watch that every spare minute of the day. People can’t get through the day without their music playing in their ear, so much so that now you can have 10,000 songs or more on your player. What are they listening to? Some of the most vile things a person can imagine. We have a nation full of idols. God has judged in the past for this and God will judge again.
