It was the practice of Jesus to be up and about early. (Verse 2) This devotional is not about being up early but about how most people begin their day. What is the first thing you do in the morning? Eat breakfast, get a shower, out the door to work. That is the way most people begin their day I would think. Work all day, come home, relax, eat dinner, get some work done around the house and off to bed. Would that be your day? Where is our time for the Lord? Our time in His Word, our time in prayer, our time to worship and serve Him? Jesus began His day early for a reason, He was busy with people coming and going, teaching the disciples, preaching to the people, Jesus was busy. But not too busy for time with the Father each day. Time to pray, many times all night in prayer, time to worship, time to be apart and alone with the Father. This is what is missing in the lives of most Christians today, that time apart and alone with God each day. It is the most important part of the Christian life and the most difficult to maintain. Even as a pastor this is something that I have to work at. This morning was an early start, out the door a little after 5:00AM, off to the hospital to have prayer with one of our folks before surgery, doing an errand for another, back home now and much to do. But we need to be careful we don’t get too busy to spend time with the Lord. How busy are you today? Let us not be too busy.
