June 25th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyRom 10:4 Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for Israel is, that they might be saved. 2 For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For they being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.
Paul’s desire for Israel was that they would be saved. But how many of Israel? That answer is given in verse 4 of our text. “Every one that believeth”. That is because all of Israel could be saved if they only believed. Not the few that God called or elected for salvation, but all because God called and calls all to be saved. The false doctrine of Calvinism is making many inroads today. It is a doctrine contrived to appeal to the intellect and pride of man. After all you must be worth something if God chose you and denied others. You have been able to see things that others have missed. But in seeing them the simple truth of Scripture is missed. 2 Peter 3:9 clearly gives us God’s mind on salvation and who can be saved. “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.” If God is not willing that any should perish why would God call only a few? Some point to certain reformers and evangelist of the past and their views on Calvinism but let us go back to the beginning of the church. What did the Apostle Paul think? According to Romans 4 Paul believed all could be saved. According to Romans 10:13 Paul believed that “Whosoever” could be saved. According to 2 Peter 3:9 Peter believed that God was not willing that “Any” should perish. Yes we do need to search the Scriptures and look deep into the Word of God. But in looking deep never miss the simple truth of the Word of God.
