May 16th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyLuke 9:28-33 And it came to pass about an eight days after these sayings, he took Peter and John and James, and went up into a mountain to pray. 29 And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.
30 And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias: 31 Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.
32 But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him. 33 And it came to pass, as they departed from him, Peter said unto Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here: and let us make three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias: not knowing what he said.
Perhaps the greatest event of their lives and Peter, John and James almost slept through it, they were heavy with sleep. Reminds me of many if not most in the church today. Everyday we draw closer to the return of our Lord. The way has been made ready for the one world government, our nation is only a shadow of what it used to be, our leaders turning more and more away from what this nation was founded upon, the global economy and our own ready to crumble. The signs of the times indicate that we are living in the very last days before the rapture of the church. Most Christians know this even as the three who went with Jesus must have know something special was about to take place. Yet they were heavy with sleep. What of the church today, what of the Christian today? Most believe that we will see the rapture, that generation in on the scene today. Yet what are we doing for the Lord? At the time when we should be doing more we are doing less. At the time we should be looking up we are looking down. At the times we should be awake to the needs of the lost we are asleep to their plight. We need to wake up and look up, our redemption draweth neigh. Yet what are we doing for our blessed Lord? Our time may be short but that doesn’t mean we should catch a few winks of sleep.
