Daily Devotions
May 15th, 2012 by Pastor SolleyJames 2:14-20 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? 15 If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, 16 And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit? 17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone. 18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. 19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. 20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
For sure there is nothing that we can do to save ourselves. Salvation is all of God through the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. There is nothing that you or I can do to be saved except believe and receive God’s free gift of salvation by repenting of sin and faith in Jesus Christ. The choice is yours my friend, God wants you to be saved, wants all to be saved, but you must choose. But after we are saved then there is much we need to do, much we can do. We cannot work to get saved but we can work and serve so others know we are saved. You say you believe and that is enough. Notice verses 19 in our text this morning, the devils also believe. That is not a belief of salvation but simply of God. What are the devils doing to get others saved? They work to keep people from getting saved. Do you realize that if you are saved today and do nothing for Christ, no service in your life, no devotion to Christ, no walk with Him, that you do what the devils do? You may not work openly against the cause of Christ but you do nothing to add to the cause of Christ by keeping your salvation hidden from the world. No wonder faith without works is dead. What are you doing for the Lord Jesus Christ?
