Daily Devotions

28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work to day in my vineyard. 29 He answered and said, I will not: but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, I go, sir: and went not. 31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, The first. Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you.
Matt 22:41-45
41 While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them, 42 Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David. 43 He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying, 44 The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool? 45 If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?
Two times we find Jesus asking this question “What think ye?” Why would Jesus do that? Was it important what those Pharisees and elders thought? Is it important what we think? What the saved think, what the lost think, is it important to the Lord what we think? Not really. The questions was asked to show those ones the condition of their heart. They were lost and in unbelief and their actions proved that. What is important is what we do. Have we repented from sin and received the Lord within? Are we walking in obedience to the Word of God? Are we seeking and following the will of God day by day? Are we serving? More important than what we think is what we do. I can knock on certain doors today, visit people in their home who will tell me how much they love Jesus. Tell me they are saved and tell me how important the things of God are to them. Tell me how much they love the church and the people of God. Yet yesterday those same people were not in church, missed the fellowship we had, missed the preaching of the Word of God, ignored an opportunity to worship in the presence of God. They do nothing as far as serving the Lord, do no work in, around, or through the church. Have no devotions in the home, do not bring their children to church, to youth, to anything. Yet they will tell me how much they love Jesus. “What think ye?” Do they love the Lord, are they serving the Lord? You see it is not important what we think, it is important what we do. What we think is put on display daily in what we do. There is no need to ask the question.
