49 I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled? 50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished! 51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: 52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.
Yesterday we looked at the world and the Christian making themselves fireproof. That ought not to be. Notice what Jesus said in verse 49. He came to send fire upon the earth. One thing fire does is divide. It will burn the chaff, it will purify the good. One thing fire does is divide. Perhaps that is why we do not like fire in the spiritual realm. If we are on fire for Him, if the Holy Spirit has lit a fire within, that fire will divide and separate. Separate the Christian from the world, from sin, form selfish desire. It will separate from people, even loved ones. We will find ourselves following after the Lord in all things and not being held back even by those we love. The fire has been kindled my friend. Kindled by Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, by the apostles, by men of God down through the ages, by the Bible. The fire has been kindled, what then will we do with it? Will we draw near to be warmed by His Spirit and His Word, will we allow ourselves to be lit on fire from above, will we add to the flame? Or are we fireproof, will we put it out or let it die out?
