24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: 25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. 26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it. 28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
How often are you astonished at the doctrine of Christ? As Jesus ended this message which began back in Matthew 5 the people were astonished at His doctrine. Not many are astonished at the doctrine of Christ today. Most people hearing the gospel turn a deaf ear to it. Even most people claiming to know Jesus Christ as their personal savior pay little attention to the Scriptures, to the doctrine of Christ. Man chooses to live life on his terms and not God’s, to do his own thing and not be bothered with obedience to the Word of God. We have a lot of Sunday morning Christians in our churches today who never pay attention to what is being preached. When one is astonished at the doctrine of Jesus Christ they receive it and obey it. In Matthew 8 we find the multitude of people following after Jesus. That is because they were astonished. When was the last time God spoke to you as you were reading your Bible, as you were praying, while you were listening to the preaching of the Word of God? God can’t speak to you, can’t get through to you if you choose to ignore His Word, if you are not astonished at His doctrine. Jesus has authority over you, over all, let us then be astonished at His doctrine and obey it.
