11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief. 12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.
There is a “New ministry” starting in our area that we have been invited to be a part of but one we have refused to be identified with. The reason that I bring it up is that it shows the trends of our day. In a statement of faith they say all the things that we believe but in a mission statement they show their true beliefs. In their mission statement they say they have a desire to “Hold fast to the truths of God which are eternal and unchanging while presenting them in a way that is relevant to our culture today” As a contribution to society and religion they will present “An alternative to traditional places of worship” They will be distinct in “Providing worship and a love for Christ, free from denominational traditions, rules and rituals”. They are part of the new wave so to speak. Ever wonder why so many neglect the church today, why so many are down on the church today, why so many claim we need new ways of doing things? The answer is in our reading today. The Bible deals with sin. (Verse 12) And a Bible believing church with a true man of God will preach the Bible and deal with sin. And this is what man does not want to be confronted with today, his sin. But be it known even if you ignore it, if you don’t want to deal with it, if you find alternatives, God still sees your sin. It is open before Him and one day it will be dealt with. Better to deal with sin now than on the judgment day.
