11:1 And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, 2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring him. 3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. 4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. 5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? 6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go.
“And they said unto them as Jesus has commanded”. Have you ever noticed in Scripture that many times and places that God goes before His children in simple ways? God went before the three in Babylon who were cast into the fire, God went before Daniel as he was cast into the den of lions, God before David as he faced Goliath. We look at the great miracles in the Bible and we see God going before His children. But have you ever taken note of how God also goes before His children in simple ways? Two unidentified disciples were sent to get a donkey in Mark 11, we are not even given their names. They go into the city and get the animal and they are stopped by some men who knew they did not own it. Yet the Lord had gone before them here as well just as He had went before so many others in the Bible. When they said what Jesus told them to say they were given leave with the colt. Consider that the men who stopped the disciples were most likely the same ones that would reject Christ, who would deny that Jesus is the Messiah of Israel. They may have know the owner, perhaps one of them owned the animal. Why give two people the colt when it was not even told them what they needed if for? Because Jesus had gone before them. We may never be called to do great things for the Lord, never be called to face a giant in a life or death fight, never be called to go into a den of lions. We may never be called to do what we would consider great things for the Lord. But even in the most simple thing we can be assured of this, our God will go before us. Even if it is just to get a donkey.
