Acts 26:12-19 Whereupon as I went to Damascus with authority and commission from the chief priests, 13 At midday, O king, I saw in the way a light from heaven, above the brightness of the sun, shining round about me and them which journeyed with me. 14 And when we were all fallen to the earth, I heard a voice speaking unto me, and saying in the Hebrew tongue, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 15 And I said, Who art thou, Lord? And he said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest. 16 But rise, and stand upon thy feet: for I have appeared unto thee for this purpose, to make thee a minister and a witness both of these things which thou hast seen, and of those things in the which I will appear unto thee; 17 Delivering thee from the people, and from the Gentiles, unto whom now I send thee, 18 To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. 19 Whereupon, O king Agrippa, I was not disobedient unto the heavenly vision:

Paul here is giving his testimony of salvation and his call to service by the Lord Jesus Christ. Two things I would like to point out this morning. (1) Jesus appeared to Paul for a purpose. (Verse 16) Did you know that the same holds true today on the part of Jesus. His desire is to appear to man, to His children for a purpose. Let me ask you; do you read the Word of God today for a purpose? Even as you read your Bible today is it for a purpose? Do you seek to find what God has for you? Many Christians reading their Bible do it without purpose. Many just read the devotional for the day, or the chapter for the day to get it done. But we need to read the Bible with a purpose. Pray over the Word asking God to give you light and understanding. Asking the guidance of the Holy Spirit as you read His Word. Ask God to speak to your heart. Do you read the Bible with a purpose. (2) Paul then obeyed what he received. (Verse 19) What God gave him Paul believed and obeyed. Is that what we do? The only way a Christian reading the Bible can walk in sin is to ignore what they read. Some things they will accept readily. For example the promise of answered prayer. But others they will reject. For example the condition of obedience and praying in the will of God to have prayers answered. We not only need to read the Word of God with a purpose, we also need to obey what God gives us.
