January 2nd, 2012 by Pastor SolleyHeb 11:8-10 8 By faith Abraham, when he was called to go out into a place which he should after receive for an inheritance, obeyed; and he went out, not knowing whither he went. 9 By faith he sojourned in the land of promise, as in a strange country, dwelling in tabernacles with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise: 10 For he looked for a city which hath foundations, whose builder and maker is God.
One thing for sure about 2012, we go out, not knowing whither we went. Abraham followed the command of God not knowing what was ahead, not knowing whither he went. The same could be said of the Christian as we enter this New Year, none of us knows what is ahead. We know there will be trials even if we don’t like to think about that. Some reading this will experience health problems, some emotional problems, some will have problems in the family, some may even face death. We don’t know what lies ahead in this New Year. One thing we do know though is that our Lord will go before us. The Good Shepherd leads the sheep, He does not drive them. This truth will make the New Year something to anticipate. Where will God lead so we can better serve Him? Where will the will of God take us? We do not know the answer to these things on Jan 2, 2012 and more than we knew the answer on Jan 2, 2011. But we do know that we look for a city whose builder and maker is God just as Abraham did. And we do know that God is leading us ever toward that city and our reward. So let us then follow in faith the path that He has for us in 2012 even though we at this time do not know where He is leading.
