Luke 13:6-9 6 He spake also this parable; A certain man had a fig tree planted in his vineyard; and he came and sought fruit thereon, and found none. 7 Then said he unto the dresser of his vineyard, Behold, these three years I come seeking fruit on this fig tree, and find none: cut it down; why cumbereth it the ground? 8 And he answering said unto him, Lord, let it alone this year also, till I shall dig about it, and dung it: 9 And if it bear fruit, well: and if not, then after that thou shalt cut it down.

Almost every New Year I think about this parable. About what the Lord must think of my work and works for Him over the past year. Does Jesus see fruit in me? Did my work for Christ, my life for Christ produce fruit over the past year. Not in my own might mind you, but by the power of the Holy Spirit within does Jesus see fruit when He looks at me? No doubt in some years He see less tan in others and in some years He may see none at all. Were there years, and I am sure there have been, when I was just taking up space in the ground as the fig tree above? Now we stand at the beginning of another year. What to do? Make this a year when we are filled with His Spirit, yielded to His Spirit, are found walking in the light of His Word, and bearing fruit for Him. When we look back at 2012 may there be fruit found growing in our tree.
