Mark 9:43-50 And if thy hand offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having two hands to go into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 44 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 45 And if thy foot offend thee, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter halt into life, than having two feet to be cast into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched: 46 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 47 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out: it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire: 48 Where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched. 49 For every one shall be salted with fire, and every sacrifice shall be salted with salt. 50 Salt is good: but if the salt have lost his saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and have peace one with another.

Not many people take time to think about hell do they? Certainly those lost in sin and apart from Jesus Christ don’t. If they did they would seek the Savior. But what of the Christian? Most who know Jesus Christ as personal savior spend little time thinking of hell and why should they? We are saved and waiting for heaven. Waiting to see the Lord Jesus Christ, waiting to be reunited with those who have gone on before, waiting to walk streets of gold, we are waiting for heaven? Why should we think of hell? Because it will help give the Christian a burden for the lost. To think of those we know, those we work with, go to school with, we are friends with, even some in our families who are lost, those ones without Jesus Christ are bound for hell. It is easier not to think about that but it is not right to ignore the truth. If we would stop and just think upon what is waiting for the lost it will help us to have a burden to share the gospel message. Jesus said that if there is someplace you like to go that is keeping you from getting saved it would be better for you to cut off your foot. (Verse 45) Now if someone were trapped and the only way out was for them to cut off his or her own foot I would not want to see that happen. If I became aware of their plight I would do all in my power to help them. Think of that illustration for a moment. People are lost and headed for an eternity in hell, they are trapped in sin. I see them, you see them daily. What are we doing to set them free? What are we doing to bring them to Jesus Christ? Eternity in hell, like eternity in heaven, will never end. That pain and punishment will never come to an end and we have what people need to be set free. What are we doing to get them out of that trap of sin?
