3 John 9-12 I wrote unto the church: but Diotrephes, who loveth to have the preeminence among them, receiveth us not. 10 Wherefore, if I come, I will remember his deeds which he doeth, prating against us with malicious words: and not content therewith, neither doth he himself receive the brethren, and forbiddeth them that would, and casteth them out of the church. 11 Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. 12 Demetrius hath good report of all men, and of the truth itself: yea, and we also bear record; and ye know that our record is true.

What ever happened to humility? Diotrephes gives us a picture of most people today. We see this in society, those who love to have the preeminence. Watch a sporting event and take note of the reaction of the one who scores the touchdown, hit’s the homerun, makes the basket and you would think they did everything themselves. There is no humility. We are seeing the same thing in the spiritual realm. Some lifting themselves up before the world, trying to find some hidden truth that they can share in a book, making themselves something when in truth they are nothing. We see many clouds today without water as the Bible states. The true servant of God is humble before God and man. The true servant of God is servant to all. The true servant of God follows the example of Demetrius. Could it be he had a good report of all men because he was humble before all men. Some mask their pride very well even taking pride in how humble they claim to be. The world and the church have enough men like Diotrephes. What we need is more like Demetrius.
