John 13:13-17 Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. 14 If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. 15 For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16 Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. 17 If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

The earthly ministry of Christ was one of service. This is a truth that is often lost today. People seem to think that God is still there to serve them. Even Christians tend to think God is there to serve them. To give them what they ask for, to do what they demand, to serve them night and day. Yet Jesus says we are to follow His example. That means God is not there to serve me but I am here to serve Him. Yes God will answer prayer, God will provide, protect and direct. Our spiritual needs and our earthly needs are met in Jesus Christ. But above this is the truth that I am to be serving Him. Jesus Christ on the cross did for me and you something no one else could. Jesus Christ on the cross became a servant to sinful man. Jesus Christ on the cross died for every man woman and child ever born. Jesus Christ was a servant. After salvation is it then unreasonable that we should follow His example and serve Him?
