Isaiah 49:1-5 Listen, O isles, unto me; And hearken, ye people, from far; The LORD hath called me from the womb; From the bowels of my mother hath he made mention of my name. 2 And he hath made my mouth like a sharp sword; In the shadow of his hand hath he hid me, And made me a polished shaft; In his quiver hath he hid me; 3 And said unto me, Thou art my servant, O Israel, in whom I will be glorified. 4 Then I said, I have laboured in vain, I have spent my strength for nought, and in vain: Yet surely my judgment is with the LORD,
And my work with my God. 5 And now, saith the LORD that formed me from the womb to be his servant, To bring Jacob again to him, Though Israel be not gathered,
Yet shall I be glorious in the eyes of the LORD, And my God shall be my strength.

Many today have lost sight of the purpose behind the new birth. Yes to forgive sin, to give us an home in heaven, to save from hell and redeem from Satan. But we are also saved to serve, Notice verse 5 in our text. We are saved to become the servants of God. We are saved to be made strong in Christ and to serve Him in this world of darkness. Yet few Christians ever consider what they could be or should be doing for Christ. Wednesday is the traditional midpoint of the week. Look back at Monday and Tuesday and count the things you did in service for Christ. Even just being faithful in reading your Bible and prayer. Most are going to say they have done nothing to this point in the wee, plan on doing nothing today, and will do nothing the remainder of the week. Is it any wonder then that many who claim to know Him continue to lead empty and meaningless lives. We have been formed in Christ to serve Christ. Let us then yield to the leading of the Holy Spirit, be filled with the Spirit and the knowledge of His Word and serve. One is always better off doing what they were made to do.
