John 7:16-18
Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. 17 If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. 18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

The key to understanding doctrine and the will of God is not intellect, but obedience. Take note of verse 17. We know doctrine as we obey, we know His will as we obey. It is no wonder so many so called intelligent people get so far off track in spiritual matters. They see themselves as some great thinker, above everyone else, and above God’s Word as well. Yet if you look at their lives you see them fail to follow the Lord is many areas, fail to obey the simple commands of Scripture. If you want to know His will obey His Word. If you want to grow deeper in doctrine obey what you already know, obey His Word. God never give light without it being put to a test. How can we look for more light when we have failed to walk in what has been given? Simple obedience is the key.
