July 20th, 2011 by Pastor SolleyJohn 6:65-69 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father.66 From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.
The above verses clearly deal with service and serving the Lord. What of the ones who went back, who walked no more with Jesus? The Bible calls them “Disciples”, followers of Jesus, those who were called, who heard the truth and believed. Why then would they walk away? Didn’t Jesus want them? If not then why where they with Him, why does the Bible identify them as disciples? Jesus wanted them, had called them as He calls all men to salvation. But these ones began to see that it was going to cost something to follow the Lord, to serve the Lord, so they turned back. Our churches are full of such disciples today, those who claim to love Christ but will endure nothing, sacrifice nothing to serve Him. As long as being a Christian is nothing more than coming to church one service a week they are glad to be called Christians. But when it is time to hand our tracts, knock on doors, or even work around the church those same ones are not to be found. Are you walking back today or walking with the Lord.
