Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 By a new and living way, which he hath consecrated for us, through the veil, that is to say, his flesh; 21 And having an high priest over the house of God; 22 Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.
“Boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus.” What a blessing to know that we can enter into the presence of God at any time through the person of the Lord Jesus Christ. This in one of my favorite passages of the Bible but be careful how it is applied. I hear many use verse 19 as a way of saying we have a right to pray and we can claim any answer we want. Friend we have nothing without Jesus Christ. Our position in prayer is our position in Him and without Him we have nothing, our boldness needs to be in Jesus Christ. And notice verse 22 as well. We can expect answers to prayer in His will and then only when we have our bodies washed with pure water. This speaks of a daily cleansing with Christ. One cannot live in sin and expect the blessings of God. Our High Priest is the Lord Jesus Christ and we do have access at any time to the throne of grace in prayer, but we still have no right to be there in ourselves and no right to order God around in prayer. When we stand in boldness let us even more stand in humility before God the Father in Jesus Christ.
