Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26?That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27?That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.
How important is the church to Christ? This text gives us a good indication. Notice the Word “It” in verse 26. It is true that individual Christians make up the “Body of Christ”, the church. We do have withing us as Christians the Spirit of God. The Christian in important to God. But so is the “Church”, the local assembly, the different Bible believing churches. The Bible says that Christ died for “It”, the church. God could have said “You” in this passage but He chose to say “It”. The church is important to God. What is my point? Something so important to Christ that He would die for it ought to then be important to the Christian. Yet I wonder how many stayed home from what Christ died to establish yesterday, last evening? How many will miss Wednesday prayer service, or soul winning this week? How many neglect the church? Worse, how many work against the local church? The church is important to God. How important is it to you?
