March 18th, 2011 by Pastor Solley2 Corinthians 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.
There are many wonderful and precious promises found in the Word of God and many of them are unconditional. For example Heb 13:5 give us the promise of His ever abiding presence in the life of the Christian. That in an unconditional promise, it does not depend upon us doing anything. Yet there are other promises that do demand something of us. Even 2 Cor 7:1 looks back on a conditional promise.
2 Cor 4:14-18 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? 15?And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? 16?And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17?Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, 18?And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty. God being our Father and we His sons and daughters is not in reference to salvation, this is addressing people already saved, it concerns our relationship and walk with the Lord. Not every Christian walks as close to the Lord as others just as not every natural child is as close to their parents as others. If we want to have that closer relationship and walk with the Lord then we must separate from the world. If it seams like some of the promises in the Bible are not being fulfilled in our lives it might be because of something we are or are not doing. Claim the promises in the Bible my friend, but in claiming them we must bring ourselves into a closer walk with him, we must yield to the Spirit and the Word.
