Luke 6:12-16 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God. 13?And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles; 14?Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew, 15?Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes, 16?And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.
Have you ever wondered what Jesus prayed for, what He prayed over? One might say that Jesus was praying here for direction in choosing the His 12 disciples but that cannot be right for Jesus is God and God knows all things from the beginning. Jesus knew who He would choose. We really don’t know what Jesus prayed for or over here. If you study the prayer life of Jesus you will not find many of His prayers to the Father made known in the Bible, just many of the times He prayed. What is my point? We need to have those times when we are part and alone with God, when we give the deepest part of our hearts to the Father, and we spend much time with Him. It seems to me that many people want to publish their prayers today, that many want to seem spiritual and religious by their prayers. Just go to a Christian book store and you will see what I am talking about. But we don’t see Jesus doing that. We need to pray, and we need to be apart and alone with the Lord in prayer. It is not so much the words Jesus spoke in prayer, but the time He spent in quiet communion with the Father. Do you have those times? When was the last time you really gave your heart to the Lord in prayer in ways that only the Father knows?
