Ex 5:1-3 And afterward Moses and Aaron went in, and told Pharaoh, Thus saith the Lord God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness. 2?And Pharaoh said, Who is the Lord, that I should obey his voice to let Israel go? I know not the Lord, neither will I let Israel go. 3?And they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days’ journey into the desert, and sacrifice unto the Lord our God; lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

Much is said of the hardened heart of Pharaoh, some even saying that Pharaoh never had an opportunity to obey God, that God hardened his heart from the beginning. But notice Moses proclaimed Jehovah before Pharaoh. The ruler did have an opportunity to l;listen to Moses, to listen to the Word of God. Yes God knew what the response would be, God knows everything, but Pharaoh hardened his own heart. The question “Who is the Lord” is not asked of a seeking heart, or even a heart that questions, it is asked by a heart that has no desire to know who the Lord is is. It is a question of defiance and Pharaoh soon found out who the Lord is. But it is a question that is often heard today. Heard from unbelief as it was the but sad to say also heard from many who claim to know Jesus Christ as savior. It is not the same words used by Pharaoh but it is the same question. Why do we have to go to church? Why should a Christian have a higher standard? What is wrong with the music of today? If we like it do it. The preacher has no right to tell me what to do. On and on, over and over, we hear that same question today. Yet people wonder why God lets one thing or another happen to them, why this trouble or that trouble? Could it be God is answering a question for them just as He did with Pharaoh?
