The term means narrow, small, hard to squeeze through. There is a rock formation near where we live with a cave that is called the “Ice Cave.” To get into and pass through the Ice Cave you must drop through a small opening, then feel your way in the dark, sometimes almost crawling, sometimes squeezing through vary narrow passages. The last time I went through was about 12 years ago and it was a tight fit. I know I could never make it now, I am carrying too much excess baggage around my middle. That is a perfect illustration of Matt 7:13-14. Jesus invites all who will to come unto Him, to receive freely of the life He offers. However it is a narrow passage one must pass through to enter into eternal life in Christ, to walk with Jesus Christ. One must strip off pride, self reliance, good works, good intentions to enter into eternal life. Then to walk with the Lord one must set aside self will, personal goals and ambitions. It is a strait gate one must enter in. But once inside we find it well worth it to have entered in. Just like the Ice Cave.
