Matthew 6:19-21 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: 20?But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: 21?For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

For the next few weeks there will be a great deal of attention to a football game. I expect to see more black and gold clothing that normal, people will be putting up signs in their yards, those big blow up football players dressed as Steelers, making plans for the big game. I see nothing wrong with that even though I am a Packer fan. But when was the last time people, Christians got excited about the Lord and the things of the Lord as they do a football game? Christians are already planning to miss church that night, some churches are changing services or will be shutting down for the big game. But for what really? Life is not really a game my friend. Think of the character and make up of the people who will be playing in that game, think of the people and what they have done and how people make them idols. Should one get so excited about a game? Not when we can see Jesus, not when we can expect Jesus to return any moment, not when we have something and someone bigger than the game. Don’t let life become a game my friend, and don’t get so excited about the wrong things. I will most likely turn on the TV after church that just to see how many points the Steelers lost by. But there are bigger things to worry about, bigger things to get excited about than that game.
