John 20:26-30 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27?Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28?And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29?Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30?And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31?But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

“Peace be unto you”. Those may very well be the most precious words that Thomas ever heard. This one was not with the others the first time Jesus appeared to them after the resurrection. For some reason Thomas was not there. We know the account, that Thomas doubted. I try not to be too hard on Thomas considering the many times I doubt the Lord in my daily walk with Him. But there is something that I try and draw from this account. Thomas spent 8 days in fear, with questions, with doubts, that he never needed to spend. Those words “peace be unto you” brought great joy to Thomas because he had just spent a season without any peace at all. Thomas would have been better off to have been with the others, to have trusted their report, to have believed, to have walked by faith. After all it was not just the testimony of the disciples that they had seen Jesus but the very words of Jesus before the cross that he could have believed. It reminds me of the many times we lack peace in our lives because we simply do not turn all over to Jesus. Do you lack pace today, real peace? Then turn to Jesus Christ in everything, rely on Him and Him alone. Walk by faith dear one and those words will ring in our ears as they did in the ears of Thomas, “peace be unto you.”
