Acts 9:1-6 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, 2?And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. 3?And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: 4?And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? 5?And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. 6?And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do.

In this account of the conversion of Saul there is a phrase that is often overlooked. Jesus told Saul in verse 6 “it shall be told thee what thou must do.” Life is full of choices, things we would like to do and things we must do. Saul was on his way to Damascus to persecute Christians, that is what he wanted to do. Then he met Jesus and now he is faced with things he must do. God makes it very clear what He demands of us, what we must do. For example Jesus said in John 3 “ye must be born again.” God makes it very clear what we must do. But the choice is still ours. Jesus did not force Saul to go on, to go into the city, but He did tell Saul there is where you will find out what you must do. Saul made the choice to obey God and thus begins the Christian life of the greatest servant of Christ in the New Testament. We have choices to make as well, things we must do. We must be born again, we must read the Bible, we must pray, we must turn our lives completely over to God, we must trust, we must obey and on and on we can go. Christian as we read and study the Word God will make it clear what we must do. Then the choice is ours to obey or not. There are things we must do.
