Jer 31:1-3 At the same time, saith the Lord, Will I be the God of all the families of Israel, And they shall be my people. 2? Thus saith the Lord, The people which were left of the sword found grace in the wilderness; Even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest. 3? The Lord hath appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: Therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

The love of God is declared in verse 3 above. We know as Christians that God loves us but stop and consider the depth of God’s love for a moment this morning. Meditate for a moment on verse 3. God loves us with an everlasting love. The word everlasting as defined in the old 1828 dictionary reaches into the past as well as the future. Yes God will love us forever, but do you realize that God loved us in the very same way before we were saved. That God’s love reaches into our past when we were dead in sin, when we ignored Him, when we mocked Him, when we were a child of the devil. God’s love reaches into our past when we were unlovable. But read carefully the rest of the verse as well. With loving kindness God has drawn us to Himself. That means that God has moved in our lives in the most tender and loving way possible in order to draw us to Himself. People often blame God for being harsh in His dealing with them and perhaps God has been. But it does not take away from this truth, God moved in the most tender and loving way possible in drawing us to Himself. It has been my hard heart that made God move in what may seem to have been harsh ways in my love. God always moved and always will in the most tender and loving way when dealing with me. The same with you. Isn’t the love of God wonderful?
