15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.
2 Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.
3 Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.
5 I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing. This is a familiar portion of Scripture and a good illustration of the Christian life. But how many turn this around today. So many while acknowledging that He is the vine and we are the branches try and dictate what the vine will do. But stop and consider the illustration for a moment. How many branches growing on a vine tell the vine what to do? How many turn the vine to directions they want to go? How many separate from the vine and try and go their own way? None of those things can happen for if the branch is separated from the vine it withers and dies. Yet Christians think they can do this in their walk with the Lord and all will be well with them. No so brother and sister in Christ. When we try and dictate to the vine we do separate from what His wants for us and we do wither away. Grow in the vine, not against the vine.
