And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,
So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
Here we have another statement by God concerning the faith and walk of Joseph. (Verse 50) Joseph was in the place of God. But I often wonder about his brothers. The brothers sold him into Egypt, lied to their father and then went on to live their lives. When this caught up to them they stood before Joseph in fear and Joseph forgave them. They brought their father to Egypt and they lived under Joseph many years. Now when Jacob died we see that their nature never changed. (Verse 15) They never felt safe over that time in Egypt. They were never in the place of God as Joseph was. Why is it that so many Christians doubt and fear over so many things? Perhaps they have never stood in the place of God. Have never fully surrendered their lives unto God. Perhaps they have never really stood before God in faith and trust. Some never come to the place of God.
