12:1 Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3 For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
It is the desire of God and the work of the Holy Spirit to move us to look away from self and unto Jesus Christ. (Verse 2) It is the work of Satan then to keep our eyes focused on self and the world. Tell me, which one is winning the battle today? What if people would just look unto Jesus as they should? People would be getting saved, Christians would be walking with the Lord, serving the Lord, churches would be full, people would be excited about the things of God. But people are more focused on self than on Christ. Until they need Jesus that is. Then they expect God’s undivided attention and when things don’t go as they should instead of blaming self they blame God. Try something today. Put an imaginary picture of Jesus before everything you do, look unto Jesus. See if that changes some of the things you do today, some of the things you watch, some of the things you say, some of the places you go. See if that lifts you up and begins to give you strength to walk and serve the Lord. See if looking to Jesus will make a difference.
