3 The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God.
4 Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain:
5 And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.
6 The voice said, Cry. And he said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all the goodliness thereof is as the flower of the field:
7 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the LORD bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass.
8 The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.
9 O Zion, that bringest good tidings, get thee up into the high mountain; O Jerusalem, that bringest good tidings, lift up thy voice with strength; lift it up, be not afraid; say unto the cities of Judah, Behold your God!
“Get thee up into the high mountain.” We used to play a game in the car as kids. Before the days of seat belts and car seats we would turn around and watch the “hill grow”. After we would crest a hill and the car would start down the other side we would turn and it would seem as if the hill behind would grow. As the car moved away from the hill it would get higher and higher and we would watch the hill grow. Problem was as the car moved into the valley you could see less and less as you were driving along, you had to be on top of the hill to see much of anything. That is the way it is often in our Christian life. We look at the mountain before us and think of how hard it will be to climb. As we move farther away from it the higher it seems to get. What if we just walked to the mountain top with God? If we got ourselves up into the high mountain? The climb may be steep, the way rough, it may take a great effort to climb up there with the Lord. But when we get to the top the view will be wonderful. We may even see some things the way God sees them.
