John 14:1-6
14:1 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.
5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?
6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
This has for a long time been one of my favorite passages of Scripture, not just these first 6 verses but the entire chapter. There are many wonderful truths and promises presented to us in John 14. Notice what we are told in verse 21. – John 14:21 He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. That Jesus will manifest himself to us. What a blessed truth, what a comfort to the soul, what an encouragement for the child of God. Jesus will make Himself known, His presence felt by the child of God. You say it has never been that way for me, why is it that I cannot know the presence of God? It does come, the manifestation of Christ when certain conditions are met. Read the verse again carefully. To the one that has the commandments of God and keeps them, to the one that loves Jesus Christ, to that one will Jesus make Himself known. We have the commandments of God and Christ in the Bible but do we keep them? And do we keep them out of love for the savior? How do you demonstrate your love for Christ? Are you reading the Word daily, in prayer often, in the house of God when the doors are open, found telling others about Christ, living for Him, walking in the Spirit? We have a promise made to us in verse 21, one that we need in our lives. But do we meet the conditions, do we allow Jesus to make His presence known?
