8:1 And it came to pass, when Samuel was old, that he made his sons judges over Israel.
2 Now the name of his firstborn was Joel; and the name of his second, Abiah: they were judges in Beer-sheba.
3 And his sons walked not in his ways, but turned aside after lucre, and took bribes, and perverted judgment.
4 Then all the elders of Israel gathered themselves together, and came to Samuel unto Ramah,
5 And said unto him, Behold, thou art old, and thy sons walk not in thy ways: now make us a king to judge us like all the nations.Here we find Israel’s demand for a king. The sons of Eli were evil so God raised up Samuel. Now we see the sons of Samuel were evil so Israel demands a king. Not a change in leadership but a change in the system God had set up. My point is this, when a Christian does not keep a good testimony for God, when a Christian is not what he or she should be it turns people completely away from the Lord. In the rest of the chapter God showed the people what a king would be like and none of it is good. But they still wanted a king, that would be better than what they had, they still would turn away from God. Christian we may not see large numbers of people flock to Christ because of the way we live. But never should we turn even one away because of the way we live. The sons of Samuel turned an entire nation away from God.
