January 29th, 2010 by Pastor SolleyEph 6:17-1817 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
18 Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints;
Ever wonder why the helmet which protects the head and the sword which is the weapon are given last in this listing? A soldier will not need those things unless he is engaged in the battle. He will not need those things unless he is moving forward on feet shod with the gospel. Unless he is clothed and seen in the righteousness of Jesus Christ. Unless he is fending off the enemy with the shield. He will not need his helmet or sword unless he is already in the fight. Are you in the fight today? Are you ready for battle?
Then he puts it all to use with prayer. Some question if verse 18 is part of the armor or not. I will leave that to others but I would give you this thought. Prayer is what makes the armor of God effective. Prayer is what makes it work. A soldier can be armed but if he does not know how to use what he has been given it is of no use to him. Prayer is what makes it all work.
