Eph 6:16
16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.Taking the shield of faith. What is the shield of faith? It is that confidence that we have in Jesus Christ that He and He alone is the answer for every trial, every attack of the enemy, every need and every question that we have in this world. It is not a hope for the future but strength and protection for the day. There were many different types of shields used by the military at that time. There were smaller ones that could be used when engaged in combat. They would defend against swords and clubs. There were some that could even be used as weapons because they were spiked and could be hurled at the enemy. And there were some that were so large they were used just for protection. They covered the entire body. It was difficult to fight while holding them but they offered complete protection. That is the shield of faith, one that offers complete protection.
But it can only be used when certain conditions are met. Only when one has been standing in truth, only when one has been walking in righteousness, only when one has been going forth with the gospel. Then we can take up this shield of faith and turn back every attack of the enemy.
