6 For they have made ready their heart like an oven, whiles they lie in wait: their baker sleepeth all the night; in the morning it burneth as a flaming fire.
Hos 7:8
8 Ephraim, he hath mixed himself among the people; Ephraim is a cake not turned.
Hos 7:16
16 They return, but not to the most High: they are like a deceitful bow: their princes shall fall by the sword for the rage of their tongue: this shall be their derision in the land of Egypt.Yesterday we looked at the illustration of the oven made ready but then neglected.
Today we see a cake not turned. – Verse 8 – In that day an oven was an earthen enclosure or if one was fortunate it was made of stone or brick. The fire to heat and bake was in the back of the oven and when one would bake they would have to turn the cake or whatever it was to be sure it would be done on all sides. Left alone the back would burn and the front would be uncooked. A Cake had to be turned.
So many today want just a part of God, a part of salvation, a part of walking with the Lord. Everyone wants the positive, wants peace, joy and love, wants grace and mercy. Those things are great and we cling to them. But what of commitment, what of taking a stand for the Lord, what of standards, what of service, what of trials? No one wants those things. Yet without them we are not complete in Christ. We need a turning as well. We love the positive, the easy, but we must also accept the hard and the negative if we are going to be complete in Jesus Christ.
Are you turned?
