13:1 Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
2 And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, to betray him;
3 Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
4 He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
5 After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.I have been thinking a lot lately about the humility of our Lord. Here in John 13 we have the account of Jesus washing the disciples feet. How could the Lord of glory stoop so low as to preform this task? Jesus knew what it was to be a servant. Do we? So many today look at many of the tasks that need to be preformed in the church as beneath them. They don’t have the time to clean the church, or work around the church and so on. No time to give to what they would consider unimportant tasks. I wonder if it is at times a problem of pride. Why should they do that, let others. Think of Jesus when we get to thinking more of ourselves than we ought. Here was Jesus, the one who created all things, the one who owns all things, the one who has power over all things, here was Jesus washing the feet of the disciples. Are we really so much beyond doing little things for our Lord?
