8 This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. Many today want to take works out of salvation. Now I do not believe that we can work to be saved but that we should work or serve the Lord because we are saved. Jesus paid it all for me my friend, all to him I owe. We can do nothing to take away our sin, nothing to satisfy the holiness of God except humble ourselves before Him, repent from sin and ask Jesus Christ to save us. Yet we see another faithful saying, “be careful to maintain good works”. Because we are saved we are to serve the Lord. Professing Christians have no problem serving self, serving their job, serving the god of sports, or shopping, or a verity of other things. But serve the Lord, no way. Many want to take works completely out of salvation. But what type of faith is it that makes no difference in your life, that effects no change, that brings about no works. James calls it a dead faith. I wonder if it is faith at all.
