23:1 Now these be the last words of David. David the son of Jesse said, and the man who was raised up on high, the anointed of the God of Jacob, and the sweet psalmist of Israel, said,
2 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue.
3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.
5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.Back to David again this morning. What a wonderful thing it is to have the Lord Jesus Christ in a life, at the foundation of everything. Understand these are God’s words. – 2 Sam 23:2-3 The Spirit of the LORD spake by me, and his word was in my tongue. The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God.
When the Lord rules all it is like we walk in the light of the morning sun, with no clouds, like a green field of grass after a spring rain. – 2 Sam 23:4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.
But it wasn’t that way with David’s house. – 2 Sam 23:5 Although my house be not so with God; yet he hath made with me an everlasting covenant, ordered in all things, and sure: for this is all my salvation, and all my desire, although he make it not to grow.
What a sad truth concerning this man of God. What could have been was not in his house. Why? Because God did not rule in the house of David. As we said yesterday David married for the wrong reasons. Captured by beauty, stolen by lust, he followed his heart and not the will of God. When we step out of the will of God things will not be what they could be or what God wants them to be. We need to learn from David.
