Jer 32:40-41
40 And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me.
41 Yea, I will rejoice over them to do them good, and I will plant them in this land assuredly with my whole heart and with my whole soul.There is a thought; that God can rejoice over His people to do them good. (Verse 47) This is speaking of Israel but think of that for a moment. God could rejoice over this people to do them good. How could that be? Israel had turned away from the Lord, had turned to idols, there were false prophets in the Land, they threw into prison God’s true prophet. Israel had turned their back on the Lord. How then could God rejoice over them to do them good? Because of the longsuffering nature of God, because of the grace of God, because of the mercy of God and because of the love of God. God could rejoice over Israel. It speaks of the faithfulness of God. They would pay a price for sin but they would not be utterly rejected by God. The faithfulness of God to Israel is a tribute to the nature of God. God keeps His promises, keeps His own.
It is no less true of the Christian today. Many times we are worse than Israel in our actions and our thoughts. But God is faithful. He will never leave us or reject us. Be sure we too will pay a price for sin if we choose to walk in it. But our God is a faithful God, always looking to rejoice over us, always looking to do us good.
