And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them.
And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him.
And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus.
And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. Here we have Jesus in a house and one with a need without. What did it take to get this one to Jesus? Getting him to the rooftop, tearing up the roof, lower him down, seeking the savior. It took a lot to get this one to Christ. I wonder how great or small is our effort in getting people to Christ today? For many Christians the effort exists not at all. Witnessing is for someone else, handing out gospel tracts is for someone else, inviting people to church is for someone else. For most the effort is non existent. No wonder we are seeing the church grow more and more insignificant in the world today, Few will make an effort to even get the lost to Christ.
What then of our desire to be near our savior, to be with Jesus. How little effort goes into that as well. The excuses people use to miss church. It was raining, it was cold, it was hot, it was too nice a day, family gathering, vacation and on and on. What of your effort to even be near to Jesus. Jesus was in the house yesterday; where were you?
