11:1 And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray , as John also taught his disciples.
2 And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.The first way that Jesus taught the disciples to pray was by example. Jesus was a man of prayer. Study the earthly ministry of Jesus Christ and you find Him to be a man of prayer.
Mark 1:35 And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.
Jesus was found praying often. Why? Because of His desire to stand in communion and walk in fellowship with the Father, to do the will of the Father. These things can not be found in us nor us in them until we become men and women of prayer. As we think of prayer this involves sacrifice on our part. Jesus arose long before daylight to spend time with the Father. Jesus departed from others so He could spend time with the Father. Jesus was often apart and alone with the Father. Do you have that time that is just for the Father, that place where you can be apart and alone with God? This needs to be a part of our everyday life. How can we know His will, how can we secure His blessings, how can we find His truth apart from prayer? It cannot be.
