Nevertheless I am continually with thee: thou hast holden me by my right hand.
Thou shalt guide me with thy counsel, and afterward receive me to glory.
Whom have I in heaven but thee? and there is none upon earth that I desire beside thee.
My flesh and my heart faileth: but God is the strength of my heart, and my portion for ever.
For, lo, they that are far from thee shall perish: thou hast destroyed all them that go a whoring from thee.
But it is good for me to draw near to God: I have put my trust in the Lord GOD, that I may declare all thy works. These are wonderful words from the heart of David. What a comfort to know that our Lord is continually with us, that He holds us in His capable hands, that He gives counsel, that He is our strength. Truly it is good to draw near to God. But read this entire Psalm to get the setting and condition of David’s heart. He had for a time turned his eyes to the world and was discouraged. Why were the wicked doing so well, why did they prosper? Why were things hard for David while they seemed so easy for the heathen? When we get our eyes off of Christ and begin to look at others and the world it will bring discouragement. Keep your eyes fixed on the Lord.
